Today, there are three different kinds of drives: SSD, SAS and SATA. To understand which drive is better for dedicated hosting server hardware, we should dig deeper into their utilities, pros and cons. Let’s compare these disc technologies to make the right decision.

SSD Drives

SSD stands for Solid State Disk. This is a storage device that features zero mechanical moving component. When applied on dedicated hosting, it has the following benefits:

SATA Drives

SATA, short for Serial ATA is connected with mass storage devices, including ptical drives or hard disks, via a bus interface.

  • It costs much lower than SAS and SSD technologies.
  • Its storage capacity can reach 3TB, which is higher than in SSD and SAS.

Disadvantages of SATA Drives:

  • Only 7200 RPM of rotational speed, which is lower than even half of SAS. It also means that performance is lower.
  • A separate SATA port is required to be on the computer motherboard, while SSD and SAS may be connected to several devices with optical drive and hard disc drives.
